DISAFFECTRESS (Rachel’s band) notes

Line-up:

  • Hannah Havoc (Hannah Lopez): vocals, occasional rhythm guitar
  • Roxxi Riot (Rachel Martinez): lead guitar, occasional backing vocals
  • Cindy Catalyst (Catherine Bellamy): bass
  • Moira Malaise (Melanie Huang/Huang Mingzhu): drums

Disaffectress are a queercore band based in Downtown Brooklyn. Formed by high school friends Rachel Martinez and Hannah Lopez at the age of 15, they later recruited Catherine Bellamy and Melanie Huang and have since attracted a small yet loyal following, commonly being hailed as one of the best live punk acts of the 21st century and commended for their strong DIY ethics. Drawing from a wide range of musical influences including noise rock, early hardcore punk and deathrock, their lyrics primarily deal with topics related to feminism and social justice, tackling racism, transphobia, misogyny, rape culture, and late capitalism, among other subjects.

The band was halfway through a tour of the East Coast when Rachel was abducted from their van by William Everett and taken to Stepford, leading them to go on an indefinite hiatus, waiting for her to return. We meet Rachel’s bandmates at the end of the film, when she reunites with them upon returning to Brooklyn.

(maybe put another drawing here)

Appearance notes:

  • Hannah: 25-26 y/o Latina lesbian trans woman, 5’7”, brightly dyed shoulder length hair commonly worn in pigtails, brown eyes and olive skin, usually seen in long distressed-look sweaters and black knee socks, LEGGY LADY!!!
  • Rachel: see character bio
  • Cat: 24 y/o white nonbinary lesbian, 5’2” but constantly wears platforms, bright red choppy Gen Z mullet with shaved sides, graphic makeup with shaved eyebrows and several facial piercings (kinda like my pal Jasper from zombie club)
  • Mel: 25 y/o Chinese-American bisexual cis woman, 5’4”, shaved head, usually dressed in all black (FUN FACT!!! she initially had short hair but once lockdown hit in 2020 she shaved it all off, decided she liked it and has consistently maintained a shiny bonce ever since)
