Omar Shahbazi is a close friend of Zach’s from high school in Brooklyn. He is a self-taught makeup artist and a second generation immigrant, his parents Wahlid and Mona having arrived in America from Tehran some time after the Iranian Revolution, and becoming heavily involved in community activism in New York before they settled down and started a family. He is the youngest of three children.
Most of Omar’s interactions with Zach involve him either being concerned for his well-being or sick of his shit, but ultimately they are very good friends; he matches Zach’s energy in ways not even he realises. He drives up to Stepford to join Zach at the start of the film, and from that point on he assists Zach in his journey to locate Cece, even conducting some research of his own for Zach’s article on the town. They argue near the end of the film, leading to a brief falling-out, though Omar eventually returns to drive Zach, Cece and Arthur out of Stepford.
